DRS has begun operating a scrub clearance train on behalf of Network Rail.
The train is includes one wagon with 3 x 20,000 litre water tanks and a coach where the application is controlled from.
A mixture of water and scrub killer is applied to predetermined stretches of permanent way around the country.
JSD, the company carrying out the actual spraying activities, has been operating this service since before railway privitisation and have extensive experience of this type of work.
DRS' function is to provide network paths and traction/ train crew - in top and tail formation using 2 x class 20 locomotives.
