Direct Rail Services (DRS) is delighted to announce that their charity open day returns later this year.
The open day shows behind the scenes at one of the UK’s leading rail freight operators and is an event for all the family.
Visitors will get to look around the company’s maintenance depot in Crewe, sit in the driver’s seat of a variety of locomotives, ask questions to industry experts and much more.
Tickets cost £6.13 (including booking fee) for adults with under 16s free. The £5 ticket price is used to aid UK charities and other deserving community causes.
The event opens at 10am on Saturday 11 July at the Gresty Bridge Depot in Crewe and closes at 4pm.
DRS is part of Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS), and Tony Hewitson, Interim Rail Director at NTS, said: “I’m delighted we’re able to host another fantastic open day this year, I am very excited to welcome guests to this wonderful family experience.
“The money raised from the open day goes to help charities, community projects and good causes across the country and we’re really proud of the support we provide through this fabulous event.”
Tickets are available to order on Eventbrite They cannot be bought on the day. There is a booking fee charged by Eventbrite but all of the £5 ticket price goes to DRS’s sponsorship and donation fund.

Under 16s are free but require a ticket, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The event will take place at Direct Rail Services, Direct Rail Services, Gresty Bridge Depot, Gresty Rd, Crewe, CW2 5AA.
Important information:
- This is a ticket‑only event. Tickets must be purchased in advance via Eventbrite and will be checked on arrival.
- The event is ticketed to safely manage visitor numbers and ensure a controlled environment on a live rail depot.
- Bags may be searched on entry. No bags larger than A4 are permitted.
- Under‑16 tickets are free but must be booked. All under‑16s must be supervised at all times.
- There is no visitor parking at the depot. Limited disabled parking is available – email communications@ntsglobal.uk for an application form.
- A limited number of exhibitor spaces are available. Please email to request an application form.
- Visitors must not wear hi‑vis clothing on-site.
- No smoking, alcohol, drugs, offensive weapons, or drones are permitted.
- Sensible footwear must be worn.
- No dogs, except guide dogs, are allowed on-site.
