This year’s open day has sold out

Direct Rail Services (DRS) is delighted their charity open day returns later this year, with the event having sold out.

The open day shows behind the scenes at one of the UK’s leading rail freight operators and is an event for all the family.

Visitors will get to look around the company’s maintenance depot in Carlisle, sit in the driver’s seat of a variety of locomotives, ask questions to industry experts and much more. There will also be a naming ceremony for the locomotives and their new nameplates unveiled.

The price of tickets was £7.13 (including booking fee) for adults with under 16s free. The £5 ticket fee is used to aid UK charities and other deserving community causes.

Gates at DRS’s Kingmoor depot will open at 10am on Saturday 6 July and close at 4pm.

DRS is part of Nuclear Transport Solutions (NTS), and Gottfried Eymer, Managing Director of Rail at NTS, said: “I’m thrilled that we’re able to host the fantastic open day this year. This will be my first open day since joining the organisation and I’m very excited to welcome guests to this wonderful family experience.

“The money raised from the open day goes to help charities, community projects and good causes across the country and we’re really proud of the support we provide through this fabulous event.”

There is a booking fee charged by Eventbrite but all of the £5 ticket price goes to DRS’s sponsorship and donation fund.

Under 16s are free and require a ticket, they must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The event will take place at Direct Rail Services, Kingmoor Depot, Etterby Road, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 9NZ on the 6 July 2024 between 10am and 4pm.
