The one day ‘Safety in Intermodal Rail Operations’  event aims to:

  1. Discuss/highlight the main issues facing the safe delivery of increasing intermodal operations.
  2. Share best practice/best research
  3. Consider one industry approach for all operators
  4. Agree an ongoing strategic industry group going forward to maintain the focus and drive continuous improvement

  • Welcome & Introductions – NTS
  • Intermodal Safety Performance – Peter Williams (Network Rail) – a look in detail at our collective performance on the network for the past 12 months.
  • Condition of Vehicles on the Network – Dave Ethell – highlighting work to date from the NFSG group  – key findings/actions
  • Freight Derailment Prevention Working Group – Deanne Haseltine (Freightliner) – Update and key actions
  • Lunch (provided)
  • Train preparation – One Industry Standard? – Neil Sime (Victa Railfreight)
  • Train preparers – Human Factors study – David Golightly (Newcastle University) & James Lonergan (RSSB) –  Feedback on the work done through NFSG/workshop
  • The Way Forward & Closing Remarks – (NTS) – Do we believe there is merit in forming an Industry Group to co-ordinate and lead continuous improvement?
